The Hammer Horror Festival is a chance to celebrate the well known Hammer horror films with an exhibition, film screenings, ghost tours and readings organised by the Idea Generation Gallery. Hammer Film Productions first made a name for themselves in the mid-1950s with low budget, high drama horror films that soon became cult classics. 'Hammer' still stands for 'horror' today. The exhibition includes never-seen-before artwork from the archives, rare and original posters and behind the scenes photos as well as artwork for upcoming films. Various events staged by the gallery in and around Shoreditch include film screenings, a Hammer Vampire Hunt - with the clues taking you to some scary places - and ghost stories with readings in the gallery by some famous faces. In addition, two well known contributors have been lined up to talk about Hammer: Marcus Hearn, historian and writer of the Titan book The Hammer Story; and Jimmy Stangster, writer and producer of some of Hammer's famous films including Dracula. Guaranteed to send a shiver down your spine.
